The apostle Paul indicates that everything we do should be for the express purpose of glorifying God, not to please or exalt ourselves.  1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1 says, So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved. Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. Also, 1 Peter 4:10-11 declares that our service to one another is ultimately for God’s glory in Christ: As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
