To know Christ is more than awareness of who He is or to have learned certain facts about Him. Jesus' use of the idea of one knowing the Father or Himself clearly implies relationship and/or fellowship. Jesus came to make the Father known to us (John 1:18, 17:8) for the purpose of our relationship with Him. John 17:8 refers to those who belong to Christ as having received the words He spoke and believing that Christ came from the Father. By faith, one comes to know Christ, believing in Him because of Who He is and what He did for us.
