Free Online Bible Classes

I attended Dallas Theological Seminary during the summers of 1986-1991, while I was a teacher at Dayton Christian High School (I squeezed their two-year program into six years). I remember being astonished at the high quality of the instruction I received there, how my professors made the Bible come alive for me in new ways. Although my school paid for my tuition, there were many other costs associated with that rich educational experience: traveling to and from Dallas every summer, books, housing, etc.

The internet has completely changed that instructional model, creating opportunities for training and learning that simply weren’t available to previous generations. Many people are now able to earn degrees entirely online, without ever stepping foot on the campus.

But you don’t have to commit thousands of dollars to get good Bible training. Quality online Bible courses from solid Christian seminaries and Bible schools are now available for free.

Take a look at these opportunities to sit under some of the finest Bible teachers in the world.

My alma mater, Dallas Theological Seminary (https://courses.dts.edu/), offers courses on several books of the Bible.

  • Genesis

  • Exodus (I’ve signed up for this one!)

  • 1 Samuel

  • Selected psalms

  • Daniel

  • Jonah and Ruth

  • Gospel of John

  • The Book of Acts

  • Romans

  • 1 Corinthians

  • Galatians

  • The Thessalonian epistles

  • Hebrews

  • James

  • The Revelation of John

In addition to these book studies, DTS also offers several other free online courses on important topics:

  • Can You Trust the Bible?

  • Evangelism

  • How to Read the Bible Like a Seminary Professor

  • Lessons from Biblical Leaders

  • Luther

  • Names and Attributes of God

  • Return of Christ

  • The Life of Christ

  • The Story of Scripture (DTS president Mark Yarbrough will be here at PPC in September to teach this course in person!)

  • Understanding God’s Covenants

  • What Is Theology?

Besides DTS, there are several other quality Bible training options available for free online. Some of the courses are hosted on the seminary’s website, some are on YouTube, while others are on iTunes and other platforms.

Although there is no financial cost for these courses, there are other costs.

Any time you enroll in a course, you commit yourself to the time and effort it will take to get the work done: sometimes only watching the instructional videos, but sometimes also buying and reading books, maybe even writing papers.

But the hours you commit to this kind of training will be time well spent as these resources can deepen your understanding of God’s Word and draw you closer to the Savior.
